After studying for a degree in constructed textile design at Winchester School of Art, Jane worked as a freelance machine knit designer, selling her swatch designs to worldwide fashion houses and knitwear companies.
In 1995 Jane started working as a Design Consultant for Rowan Yarns and then, after the births of her 2 children, she also started working alongside knitwear designer Debbie Bliss as a sales and workshop assistant. It was during this time that Jane started to develop her own workshop schedule and explore new design ideas and wrote her first book 'Finishing Techniques For Handknitters'.
Jane has always had a love for yarn and all things crafty and attributes her ‘crochet gene’ to her great grandmother, Alice, who was seldom seen without a crochet hook in her hand and a few granny squares upon her lap. Jane's own passion for crochet started about 10 years ago, but she didnt really fall for the craft until she was invited to write a crochet techniques book called 'The Ultimate Crochet Bible' for Collins & Brown, this was followed a few years later by 'Homespun Vintage' - a book of knit & crochet designs for the home.
Jane's path was often crossed by fellow design consultant Debbie Abrahams and they soon found they had a lot in common and became firm friends. Jane & Debbie have tutored lots of workshops together and it was during a workshop at a Chateau in the South of France that Debbie encouraged Jane to start a mystery crochet project along the lines of her own (Knitted) Mystery Blanket Club, so in 2011 Jane released her first Crochet Club - a worldwide crochet along (CAL) project, which was followed by 2 more clubs in 2012 & 2013. In 2013 Jane & Debbie also authored their joint book 'Kaleidoscope - 24 knit & crochet projects for the home' and have been teaching workshops together ever since.
In 2014 Jane took a break from her Crochet Club design and started working on smaller designs and kits to sell through her company Janie Crow. In 2015 Jane designed a CAL project for Stylecraft yarns called 'Lily Pond Blanket'. The response to this project has been phenominal with thousands of people worldwide working through Jane's design.
Jane's new crochet along (CAL) project starts in Spring 2016 and more kits and patterns are available on the Janie Crow web site. Click through the images to see more details.
